CR: First of all, tell us about yourself. How did you become a romance writer and when did you start writing?
I’ve been always writing. I always had the idea that a writer was someone you became if you were really, really lucky in life. I assumed everyone wanted to be a writer, but some people for various reasons couldn’t make it work so they had to take other occupations.
CR: Tell us about your upcoming release(s).
My current release, ROGUE SOLDIER, is an action/adventure romance that takes place in Alaska. The hero and heroine have some past issues with each other, but they’re thrown together in a harrowing mission with millions of lives at stake. As they fight back to back, they realize what the important things are and decide to give love a second chance.
CR: What publishers do you write for and what do you like about them?
I write for Harlequin Intrigue, my absolute favorite line. It has thrilling action and breathtaking romance, a winner combination. J My editor is absolutely fabulous. The other writers who write for Intrigue, Julie Miller, Rebecca York and Tracy Montoya, among others, are just the best. It’s an honor to be included among them.
CR: Do you have a favorite book and/or character from your releases?
At the moment, my favorite hero is Mike McNair from ROGUE SOLDIER. He is such a guy. Tessa is the only woman he ever loved. Now that he found her again, he just can’t understand why she isn’t falling into his arms. (Her recollection of their breakup is a little different from his J) It really is a learning experience for him to win back her love, but he puts his full heart into it. He’s the type of guy that if you were ever in a tight spot, he’s the one you would want there to be with you.
CR: Is there any particular food or drink that is always nearby when you write?
A bottle of water. I’m trying to break the habit of snacking while I write.
CR: What’s something that your readers may not already know about you?
Although, I’ve a number of books coming out (3 this year, 5 next year), the road to publication has been anything but smooth. It’s taken me a dozen or so years to get published. I tried my hands at historical romance, inspirational romance, mainstream romance, sci-fi and mainstream fantasy before finding my true voice in romantic suspense. I read and like every genre. But romantic suspense clicked in a way nothing else did. It’s a good fit for me. I think that’s important for writers to find.
CR: Do you have any advice for new writers and those collecting rejections as they wait for The Call?
Keep on writing and never give up. As soon as you send in a book start to write the next one, don’t wait to hear back first. Each unpublished book I wrote taught me a lot, things I couldn’t have learned if I kept rewriting and resubmitting the same book over and over. Editors, too, want to know that you’re not a one-book-wonder. Write every day, even if just a page.
CR: How can readers reach you?
Readers can reach me via my web site: www.danamarton.com. They can also read chapters from my various books and enter my reader contests. I’m always giving away something.
