Interview with Lucy Monroe
November 9, 2007 in Interviews, Lucy Monroe, November 2007 by Lettetia
CR: Tell us about your next release, The Rancher’s Rules, will you?
It’s a friends to lovers story that I loved writing! It’s got a little more humor than my typical Presents, but just as much passion. It’s the first in my Sunshine Springs duo (the 2nd – Housekeeper to a Millionaire – will be out next April from Presents Extra).
CR: What has been, so far, the highlight of your career as a writer?
Wow, what a tough question. Was it when I got the call? My first reader letter? My hundredth? The first time I was nominated for an award? The first time I won one? When I hit a best sellers list? When my mom told me she was proud of me? When my husband told me he knew I could do it? When my kids told me what my persistence meant to them? I don’t know…there have been so many highlights and they keep coming. I think, it’s simply the career itself. I’m living my dream and I hope that in doing so I inspire other to pursue theirs as well.
CR: Who is the first author that got you hooked on romance?
I have no idea. I started reading Presents pilfered from my oldest sisters bedroom when I was in Middle School. So, I’d have to say the line got me hooked. The first author I remember glomming was Julie Garwood.
CR: Can you tell us a little about your other upcoming works?
Deal With This (the 2nd in my The Goddard Project series from Brava) will be out Nov 27th and then in February, 3 Brides for 3 Bad Boys will be re-released as a mass market paperback. I’ve got three Presents out next year and a Harlequin anthology as well as a historical in print and even an inspirational under the name LC Monroe. Check out my website’s (lucymonroe.com) Upcoming Releases page for more info.
CR: What would you like to accomplish with your writing career?
I want to touch readers’ hearts. I want to help other lives change as mine has been changed by reading romance. I want to make the world a better place and I believe that’s possible.
CR: What is the biggest misconception about being an author?
That it’s easy? Seriously, you wouldn’t believe how many people think it’s easy to write or to write romance because they have no inkling what being an author really entails.
CR: Do you have any special rituals to help you get in the mood to write?
Music can help me focus big time. I used to use candles, but became allergic to scents. The most important ritual is laying my fingers on the keyboard and starting to type. J
CR: What are some of your hobbies besides writing?
Reading. Love my hot tub. Shopping – it’s a hobby, right? Learning new things. Bought an online Italian language program – watch out world. LOL Family is not a hobby, but it’s what I spend the most of my time dedicated to.
CR: We all have one, so tell us yours. What is your favorite comfort food?
A really good soup. Chocolate. Tea (though it’s a beverage, I know.)
CR: You find yourself stranded on a desert island, what things could you not survive without?
My husband and a good pillow. I can make books up in my head and tell him the stories (we love doing that). He’s also a dab hand at keeping me warm, but he’s a bit too firm to make a good pillow. LOL
CR: What do you do to relax?
Read. Sit in my hot tub. Go for long drives.
CR: What sound do you love to hear? What sound do you hate the most?
The sound of the door opening to let my family in from school, work, etc. The sound of the door closing on a family member leaving.
CR: Take Out food place or restaurant that is your secret indulgence…
Krispy Kreme donuts. Yum.
CR: A favorite bath or beauty product you wish you could still buy but they no longer make?
The original Mary Kay foundation. I don’t like the new formula as well.
CR: Favorite time of day?
Early evening when everyone is home.
CR:Favorite fragrance? Jewelry?
I love Estee Lauder’s “Youth Dew” perfume. And my favorite jewelry is so cliché but true none the same – diamonds set in gold.
CR: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
To make others happy with themselves and to give faith to others, both in themselves and God’s love for them.
Thanks so much for having me! I love connecting to readers any way I can and you’ve given me another opportunity and I appreciate it more than I can say.
Hugs and blessings to all,
Lucy
