THE RANCHER’S RULES by Lucy Monroe
November 12, 2007 in December 2007, Harlequin Presents, Lucy Monroe, Reviews by Donna Zapf
Zoe and Grant have been best friends since that day long ago when eleven year old Grant saved six year old Zoe from a mountain lion while she was keeping her favorite cow from being sold to market. Zoe grew up a vegetarian on a cattle ranch but couldn’t understand why her father sold the ranch to Grant instead of allowing her to keep it and continue living in the house he now rented out. Grant offered to let Zoe live there rent free but her pride is hurt and she is determined to make it on her own. However, every time she turns around, Grant is there to help her in one way or another. If only he would see her as something more than that little girl that needed saving. Zoe feels something much deeper for Grant and has ever since she was nineteen and really kissed him for the first time and would have gone father if not for her innocence.
Grant can barely remember a time when he was not looking out for Zoe. His feelings are mixed and confused now that she is grown but he knows that Zoe just wants to remain friends. That was made clear the day he blew it by scaring Zoe with his desire for her. Grant has to have Zoe in his life and if it is only as a best friend then so be it but it is hard to watch her with other men and to see her hurt by her stern father. Grant instigates some rules to keep his libido from ruining their friendship but Zoe seems to think that rules are meant to be broken.
Lucy Monroe is a favorite author whose stories seem to flow effortlessly and THE RANCHER’S RULES is no exception. The storyline is fresh and engaging as are her main characters. Zoe’s and Grant’s sexual tension fairly sizzles while their dialog is witty, fun and flirty. Ms. Monroe once again lives up to her impeccable reputation by creating this lively romance; THE RANCHER’S RULES.
