Review, The Firefighter and the Single Mum by Laura Iding
March 24, 2008 in Laura Iding, M&B Medical, March 2008, Reviews by Lettetia
Austin Monroe is a firefighter and smoke jumper. He witnessed his partner’s death seven months earlier and made a promise to take care of his widow and young son. But Lindsay Winters is independent and pushes all of his overtures away. Frustrated, Austin leaves her alone until the day they are called to a house fire in a less than desirable part of town. When Lindsay’s tiny house is threatened by the fire, Josh clears them out and takes them to his house. Living together brings feelings to the surface, feelings he has tried to hide. Perhaps with patience he can make their arrangement permanent.
Austin and Lindsey are perfectly matched and I cheered them on to make the relationship a permanent one. Lindsay’s wariness is understandable after the loss of her husband and the security he provided to their young son, Josh. She is an admirable woman who has made the best of what fate has dealt her, providing a home for her son the best way she knows how. Austin, on the other hand, is a man still grieving for his partner Sam. He is a tad controlling but his warm heart and kindness come shining through the public face he wears. Josh is a gregarious young man whom I found a delightful matchmaker. The attraction is very apparent and though both try to fight their feelings for different reasons, I knew that somehow they would make a life together. The Firefighter and the Single Mum is a lovely way to pass the afternoon. Laura Iding is an author I intend to watch.
