Review: Tipping the Waitress with Diamonds – Nina Harrington
May 17, 2010 in Harlequin Romance, May 2010, Reviews by juliemt
Sienna Rossi has spent the last couple of years striving for the job of her dreams: working as a restaurant manager at Greystone Manor, one of England’s finest and most exclusive dining places in the UK. With her promotion in the bag, Sienna thinks that life couldn’t possibly get any better for her – until she gets the shock of her life: she will be working alongside her ex boyfriend, Angelo, who had betrayed her and left her broken-hearted, alone and nearly penniless after he ran their business into the ground.
Sienna cannot believe that Angelo is about to ruin her life for a second time, and unable to face her ex for the time being, she heads for the warm embrace and comforting Italian food of her Aunt Maria at Trattoria Rossi, the restaurant which she has run for most of her life. Sienna needs some of her aunt’s wisdom and her delicious pasta, however, on her arrival at the restaurant she ends up soaked to her designer heels by her childhood crush: Brett Cameron!
As a teenager, Sienna had been bowled over by Brett’s gorgeous blue eyes, steely determination and film-star good looks yet geeky, shy and naïve Sienna knew that a guy as sexy as Brett couldn’t possibly find someone as mousy as her attractive…yet that hadn’t stopped her from worshipping him from afar – or from following his career trajectory after he had left Trattoria Rossi.
Things had certainly changed for Brett in the last couple of years. The resolute teenager has matured into a strong-minded man with a hunger for success and now Brett Cameron is one of the culinary world’s most famous names – and most lusted after celebrities. After years spent working abroad, Brett has come to England and is now fulfilling his childhood dream of having his own restaurant in London’s exclusive Notting Hill. Brett is raring to go and determined to make his eatery one of the UK’s premier dining spots. Yet, when he gets a call from Maria asking him to return to the Trattoria to manage the bistro during her absence, Brett finds himself compelled to go back to the place where his passion for food started. But unbeknownst to him, Sienna is also seeking refuge at her aunt’s place…
Thrown into close proximity together, old feelings soon begin to resurface for Sienna and Brett and as the defenses which Sienna had built around her heart begin to crumble, she starts to wonder whether she is willing to put her heart on the line again. But is she prepared to take the risk of telling Brett exactly how she feels about him? Or will she continue to let the past have a hold over her heart?
Nina Harrington has penned another winner with Tipping the Waitress with Diamonds. I adored every single word of this story and was thoroughly enchanted by Sienna, a feisty, funny and realistic heroine and the sexy Brett, a celebrity chef whose charm, sexiness and compassion will melt the hearts of readers everywhere!
Witty, warm-hearted and wonderfully emotional, with this novel Nina Harrington once again balances pathos and humour so deftly that readers will be laughing and crying in equal measures as they get swept away by this tender, believable and heartwarming story.
