Review: Renegade Angel by Kendra Leigh Castle

August 22, 2010 in Harlequin Nocturne, Reviews, September 2010 by Amelia

"RENEGADE ANGEL is fascinatingly creative and overflowing with passionate desires plus emotional sincerity."

The battle between Heaven and Hell is unending, and a possible current clash told in RENEGADE ANGEL is ingeniously realistic with numerous engaging characters. Kendra Leigh Castle presents an intriguing version of good vs. evil, where emotions are conflicted and passions turn fiery.

After Raum became a fallen angel, he thought his immortal existence would be spent in Hell. Because of a betrayal, he has now been forced to leave the place where humans receive eternal punishment. Left with only one recourse, Raum and several other ex-demons now have a completely different task to complete in order to keep good and evil in balance. It is now his duty to rid Earth of a large number of demons plus their offspring because they are tipping the scale in the direction of darkness.

His present undertaking is Ember Riddick who is half-human and half-demon. When he meets the woman, he is instantly taken with her, just as she is with him. However, after her importance to an upcoming event is revealed, Raum ends up watching over her instead of causing her death. As those in Hell scheme for more control, Raum and Ember come to realize the secrets they try to conceal may be crucial to not only their futures but those of mankind, too.

Kendra Leigh Castle creates stories with appealing characters and innovative paranormal plots. In her first Silhouette Nocturne release, the storyline is uniquely fresh with an imaginative premise and interesting supernatural beings. Ms. Castle takes an original perspective about those who inhabit Heaven and Hell, and then turns the happenings in their lives into an extremely captivating tale. Every individual introduced adds an important part to each situation, regardless of whether they try to help the main couple or hinder them, as emotions are repeatedly and often deeply affected. As Raum and Ember discover their true selves when new feelings are awakened plus unknown facts learned, the reader is treated to a magical romantic story. The paranormal elements are exceedingly believable, as I could see these occurrences actually taking place without my knowledge. As for the love story between this extraordinary couple, it is beautifully told with intensely depicted feelings and through sexual encounters where longing is explosively expressed with heated fervency. Neither Raum nor Ember has been in situations where they shared any inner feelings with others, and seeing how they respond to these unfamiliar sentiments profoundly touched me on more than a few occasions. There are a number of edgy scenes where enemies face each other, while there are some more light-hearted times because of the engrossing dialogue where conversations often contain delightful one-liners. Kendra Leigh Castle has constructed a world which totally stirs the imagination of the reader with striking descriptions and dynamic characters. RENEGADE ANGEL continuously packs an emotional punch with its magical and conceivable narrative.
