March 3, 2011 in Harlequin Nocturne, March 2011, Reviews by Amelia
The first paperback novel in the Sons of Midnight series takes readers to a supernatural world with ground-breaking ideas about the vampires who dwell there. Theresa Meyers lets her creative thoughts heighten your enjoyment as surprises abound in THE TRUTH ABOUT VAMPIRES.
When several people are killed in the same brutal manner, humans become afraid and want justice. The vampire clan to which Dmitri Dionotte belongs also wants those responsible caught, as they fear their hidden way of life will soon be discovered and mortals will seek retribution against them even though another group is to blame. Since Dmitri is the member who makes certain all those in the clan remains safe, he must find the defiant vampires and make them stop killing humans.
To keep mortals from becoming fearful of his kind, Dmitri decides to work with the alluring newspaper reporter who comes to his club seeking answers about the murders. If he can get Kristin Reed to print the truth about vampires, then possibly their clan can escape being persecuted for something they did not commit. Kristin came to the strange club in the hope of learning facts which will give her an award-winning story, and the information told to her by the charismatic Dmitri is just what she needs. Though she at first found it difficult to believe what she was told, some facts just cannot be disproved. Something else she does not want to deny is how she is starting to feel about the tempting vampire, even when danger seems to surround him.
Uniqueness describes the supernatural stories by Theresa Meyers. It quickly becomes apparent in THE TRUTH ABOUT VAMPIRES that the immortal beings in this tale will not be exactly like those who have been described in other books. From various abilities being portrayed differently to their beginning origins, the vampires found in this story will intrigue the reader with their diversity. While I was unquestionably concerned about the fate of humankind, I was also fretting about the future of this extraordinary clan of vampires. I found the personality of Dmitri to be extremely interesting, as he seems to have hung onto quite a lot of his human traits even though he has been a vampire for hundreds of years. His consideration of humans made him a hero whom I came to love in so many ways, as he put the welfare of others before his own time and again. Kristin is also an amazing heroine with her spunky nature and unwavering resolve. Both of these individuals are courageous when the situation demands, and some of the circumstances they had to face caused me to feel much trepidation. The almost overwhelming desire between these two is exceedingly evident from the way they responded whenever they are near, as the air around them seemed to be charged and just waiting to ignite. Dmitri and Kristin are passionately expressive when communicating how they feel about the other, and some of their intimate scenes are certainly sensuous. The Sons of Midnight series is packed with inventiveness, and the characters will definitely grab your notice. There is also a Harlequin Nocturne BITES included in the book in case you missed it. THE TRUTH ABOUT VAMPIRES is imaginative throughout with engaging characters and fascinating scenarios.
