Review: THE PURSUIT OF JESSE by Helen Brenna

"An Island to Remember…"

Mirabelle Island is the perfect place for Sarah Marshik and her son.  This idyllic wedding destination spot needed her skills as a wedding planner and florist and the people are friendly, although a little nosey, but mostly caring and accepting.  And finally, Sarah has saved enough to buy a little fixer-upper house to call her own and contracted with Garret Taylor to make the needed repairs this winter.  However, Garret is not doing the repairs, instead his bad-boy brother is working on her house.  Sarah knows trouble when she sees it and Jesse Taylor is definitely trouble.

Fresh from prison, Jesse plans to work on Mirabelle just long enough to make enough money to finance his way south to a warmer climate.  He doesn’t intend to stay in one place for very long.  Living with his brother’s family and his interaction with Sarah and her son Brian give Jesse a glimpse of a better life, one he knows he will never have nor deserve.

Two wounded souls find acceptance and love on the beautiful island of Mirabelle.  Award winning author Helen Brenna skillfully tells the story of Jesse and Sarah, drawing her readers into their pain and discovery.  Never one to hold back, Brenna tells it like it is, teaching the lesson of “not judging a book by its cover” as first impressions of Jesse by Sarah and the islanders prove very wrong.  Jesse evolving from a broken man to one with hope as he works through the devastation he caused in one drunken moment is easily recognized as being written by a master storyteller.  THE PURSUIT OF JESSE, another fabulous read by Helen Brenna.
