The Kelley Legacy miniseries contain plenty of scandalous secrets, and one results in the heroine of the fifth book becoming entangled in a dangerous plot where her life could end at any moment. Elle Kennedy has crafted a heartfelt story of redemption packed with much danger and uncertain feelings.
Senator Kelley made the news because of his sexual indiscretions, but he has committed an even greater unknown offense that has put his only daughter in extreme danger. Lana Kelley is studying in Europe for her degree in art history, and she ends up spending one night with a man met in a museum when they seem to have a connection. Several weeks later, there is no denying she is pregnant but sadly has no idea of how to find Deacon Holt when she discovers he has left the area. On her return trip to where she is staying, Lana is taken hostage by three men.
When she realizes the man with whom she spent an unforgettable night is one of the kidnappers, Lana is at first encouraged yet her hopes quickly die when he seems just as merciless as the others. As a mercenary, Deacon never lets his feelings dictate his actions and plans to keep them under control even though he has trouble seeing Lana held captive. He has always believed his whole adult life is lived in darkness, and there is no way he can help her out of this predicament, although she keeps talking to him like she thinks he will aid her. When things start to look rather dire, Deacon will have to decide if the money he will make is enough to outweigh the consequences of Lana possibly being harmed.
Elle Kennedy writes emotional realism. There are a myriad of sentiments either put into words or shown through deeds at some point in MISSING MOTHER-TO-BE, and each of them are backed by sincere feelings. While Lana is very open about her beliefs, Deacon leaves much unspoken as he tries to keep his conscience from having a say in how he responds to her wishes. These clashes with himself and her let the reader understand just what type of man he actually is inside, so even though his career choice is not that of a normal hero, he can still prove he is a worthy champion if he follows his heart and not his mind. Lana has constantly looked for the goodness in people and ignored any bad qualities, and when the reality of her situation hits her, the moment is poignant as her feelings are depicted with such honest earnestness. The pull between Deacon and Lana is very powerful, and this longing for the other is expressed with heated passions and touching thoughtfulness. While this couple continuously experiences up and down emotions, they also must face several particularly dangerous situations where the outcomes are out of their control and filled with uncertainties. The threats in the story are very realistic, and there are a number of times when I held my breath as I waited to see how each individual would react. Ms. Kennedy skillfully writes any circumstances occurring to Deacon and Lana in such a way as to show the truth about how they feel, and this lets the reader come to know each of them better. The story ends with a hint of what will happen in the last book of The Kelley Legacy miniseries, and it looks to be another thrilling novel. MISSING MOTHER-TO-BE intrigues with dangerous scenarios, while profound emotions deeply affect your own.
