Review: Soldier’s Secret Child by Caridad Pineiro
The Coltons: Family First miniseries continues with a story where dreams, desires and responsibilities entwine to create a heartwarming romance of second chances. Although some danger and action surround the main characters, it is the emotional aspects in their lives which is the real focus of the story and keeps the reader wanting to know more.
When gunshots outside the church postponed the wedding of Macy Ward, she is actually relived. The widow with a teenager was only marrying a good friend so her son would have a male to influence his increasingly turbulent life. Although Macy thinks of the man she was about to marry as her best friend, it is his brother, Fisher Yates, whom she truly desires. Her son, T.J., was born because of the night she spent intimately with Fisher right before he enlisted in the military and made it his life’s career, but he does not know the boy is his.
Since her husband’s death, her son has become more rebellious and this led to Macy almost getting married but later deciding to completely call off the wedding. As a recreational therapist, Macy hopes to be able to work with T.J. and get his life back on the right path. Also distressing her own life at the moment is constantly seeing Fisher around town, and knowing she should tell him about his son. Both of them are confused by the feelings still between them, but try to ignore these yearnings by not admitting them to anyone. When a dilemma leads to T.J. disappearing, Fisher and Macy find themselves sharing more than concern over their son.
Romances by Caridad Pineiro keep the reader immersed in every enthralling word. Regardless of the genre, there is always plenty of emotional moments which will touch you with their genuineness and intensity. The background for this story was told in the previous book, and Ms. Pineiro takes this scenario and creates a stirring second chance of finding love. There are numerous hidden truths to be revealed all through SOLDIER’S SECRET CHILD, some dealing with danger and others purely personal, yet each one leads to scenes containing feelings portrayed with profoundness. From the beginning of the story, there are issues to be solved and numerous emotions are called forth where the characters are often at odds with each other. The secrets frequently being withheld cause these problems, and seeing how Fisher and Macy respond when the truth is finally disclosed is touchingly depicted as they show how important family is to them. As for the buried attraction between these two, it is rousing to see just how much it is still very much alive when they finally give in to their longings. The peril concerning their son is convincingly told, as teenagers sometimes react without thoroughly thinking something through first and then dire consequences occur. Near the end of the story, there are several hints about the next book in the Coltons: Family First miniseries, and each one has me eager to discover exactly what is going on. SOLDIER’S SECRET CHILD is about two people who must find the courage to let themselves fall in love when given an unexpected second chance.
