Review: Mortal Enemy, Immortal Lover by Olivia Gates
The first venture for Olivia Gates into the paranormal genre begins with a heartfelt and mesmerizing story of the mystical. With vivid imagery and a remarkably intricate storyline, MORTAL ENEMY, IMMORTAL LOVER will have readers of the supernatural wanting much more from this ingenious writer.
Even though Javed has an almost overwhelming need to be intimate with Desire, he constantly worries about what will happen if he ever gives in to his craving. As an immortal being who is half-vampire, half-demon, he knows the human woman who has come to mean everything to him would be in peril from those whom he hunts if they ever found out about her. When Javed realizes Desi may already be in danger because of her involvement with him, he knows he must totally vanish from her life and believes disclosing his true background will make it easier.
What Javed does not know about Desi is she is an Eradicator, one who is human yet also possesses abilities which allow her to hunt and destroy supernatural beings who are evil. When an event forces these two to divulge their secrets without explanations, the atmosphere turns explosively volatile from their emotional devastation. However, there is still a tiny flame of love between Javed and Desi which will be difficult to extinguish, no matter what they accept as true.
Books by Olivia Gates are superbly written in both characterization and premise. This author has a talent for creating plots where the reader becomes totally immersed in each compelling scene featuring the likeably endearing main characters. During the opening scene of MORTAL ENEMY, IMMORTAL LOVER, emotions pour from the pages as the inner feelings of the hero and heroine are exceedingly apparent through their every thought, word and deed. The unspoken yearnings of Javed are particularly poignant, as his wishes war with his fears. Ms. Gates has a unique way of depicting all the individual sentiments so clearly and with such intensity, even the ones her characters try to keep hidden. There is a time in the story when Javed and Desi know they should actually be enemies, but sometimes the love in one’s heart is a powerful motivator as cleverly shown by the reactions of this couple. Regardless of how these two are responding to each other, I was genuinely moved by the earnest emotions they always portrayed. The intimacy between Javed and Desi is heatedly blazing from not only their fervent passions but the sincerity behind every action. Although the emotional aspects are often the focus of the story, the paranormal elements are innovative and original, making me want to revisit this fascinating world of supernatural beings where continuous surprises await. The abilities revealed by Javed and Desi are creative, making these two beings exceptionally distinctive. MORTAL ENEMY, IMMORTAL LOVER is imaginative storytelling about a memorable couple whose lives will touch your own.
