Review: FIRST COMES TWINS by Helen Brenna

"An Island to Remember…"

Returning to the small island of Mirabelle on Lake Superior is not something Noah Bennett wanted to do after almost fifteen years away, but it is something he has to do if he wants to recover. Noah is a photojournalist covering war torn countries and his last assignment ended in disaster when his foot was blown off. Recuperating at home on Mirabelle isn’t going to be easy with all the memories waiting to haunt him. He only hopes he can avoid the island busybodies and people like his father, brother and Sophie, his first and only love. Noah left Sophie to pursue his dreams away from the island and it wasn’t long before she married his brother and had twins. What is Noah to think when she could forget him so quickly?

Sophie is livid to learn that Noah has returned after all these years when he never bothered to get in touch with her or even return for his own brother’s funeral. She is so angry that she doesn’t hesitate to track Noah down to give him a piece of her mind. When she does locate him, she finds a changed man. Noah is broken and doesn’t know about his brother’s death or the anguish he has caused her. He needs care to heal from his physical and psychological injuries and of course the nurturing Sophie is determined to help so he will get off “her” island. Neither Sophie nor Noah plan to rekindle the love they both have kept hidden in their hearts.

Award winning author Helen Brenna begins a fresh new series with FIRST COMES TWINS set on a gorgeous island in Wisconsin’s Lake Superior. Ms. Brenna painstakingly describes the feeling of living on isolated Mirabelle Island populated with small town characters that know everyone’s business, often form snap opinions that seldom change but also give unconditional support for their own. Primary characters Noah and Sophie are two tragic people that missed their “happily ever after” the first time around and feel it is too late for a second chance. However, Ms. Brenna works her word magic to weave a coming together for Noah and Sophie that will not leave a dry eye among her readers. FIRST COMES TWINS will have you anticipating the next books in this awesome series. Look for NEXT COMES LOVE in October 2009, THEN COMES A BABY in December 2009 and ALONG CAME A HUSBAND in 2010.
