Review: Heiress Under Fire by Jennifer Morey
Questions arise almost immediately in the second installment of All McQueen’s Men, a miniseries about a covert organization which fights terrorism with committed determination. Jennifer Morey has created a story about a courageous hero and a reluctant heroine, where the action is unexpected and mysteries abound.
After she inherits millions from her estranged mother who was recently murdered, Farren Gage keeps wondering why, especially since she was deliberately put in foster care at a young age. She also questions the reason behind her mother making reservations to travel to Turkey right before she was killed by her husband. While pondering over these issues, Farren receives a threatening phone call demanding 3 million dollars. Knowing she must have answers, she decides to take the intended trip to Turkey in the hope of getting some concrete answers.
Shortly after Farren arrives in the foreign country, it becomes evident the threat she received in America has followed her. Luckily for her, Elam Rhule is in the area covertly working to prevent a terrorist from carrying out his plan. When their paths cross, sexual sparks fly yet they know their lives are much too dissimilar to ever have a lasting relationship. Farren quickly becomes involved in unaccustomed scenarios, where key pieces of the puzzle are gradually discovered while she and Elam hope they can stay alive to figure out the whole picture.
Jennifer Morey depicts romantic adventures with never-ending suspense. In HEIRESS UNDER FIRE, there are numerous mysteries to be solved and each new detail only heightens the anticipation of the final outcome. There are also some turns which are unforeseen, and these twists add to the satisfaction. This is a multilayered story, as the hero and heroine have much different agendas when they first meet but soon find themselves caught up in a game of perilous schemes. Elam and Farren are tormented by their personal pasts, and this plays a huge part in how they react to each other throughout the story, even when their hearts tell them to follow a different course. Farren does seem to talk incessantly at certain times, but if readers look closely at the current situation then they will realize she is simply nervous and probably feels vulnerable. The always honorable Elam has some insightful moments when he comes to comprehend how his preconceived notions about Farren are not what he at first assumed by her behavior. There is much vivid imagery describing countless aspects in this story, letting the reader know exactly how something looks while getting a better feel for the scene. If there truly was an organization such as the one featured in this story, then the world would be a much safer place. HEIRESS UNDER FIRE is a romance where intrigue and passion are evenly matched.
