The Desert Sons trilogy begins with a story where threats are very real and danger is ever present. Linda Conrad knows how to keep her readers anticipating each compelling word of her story, as the enthralling action is nonstop while fervent desires continue to mount.
During what should have been a day of celebration, the life of Rylie Hunt is turned upside down when the new shipping facility owned by her family explodes and her father is killed. Rylie believes the explosion was deliberately caused, so she later attends a shipping conference in hopes of discovering information about a family who might possibly be behind the incident. What she finds is a man, Darin Kadir, who seems to sincerely regret the tragedy and may even know who is responsible.
A feud begun between the Kadir and Taj Zabbar families many centuries ago is still causing heartache for those living in the present, and it seems the inquires Rylie is asking has also made her an enemy of this group vowing retribution. When threats against her turn physical, Darin knows he must keep her close so no harm will befall her. As they try to learn who is behind the attacks, unanticipated feelings rapidly grow into overwhelming desire which results in much uncertainty. Darin and Rylie soon find themselves facing scenarios to which they are not accustomed, nor are they prepared for the conflicting emotions constantly affecting them.
Linda Conrad expertly combines suspense with romance to create heart-pounding stories. Her books frequently depict tense circumstances where nothing is guaranteed and anything might happen, and then this situation can turn exceedingly emotive in the next second because of these treacherous conditions. Ms. Conrad has a way of portraying her characters with a great deal of realism, and they react plus communicate in a manner which seems genuinely conceivable. Emotional issues arise with much frequency from the very start of HER SHEIK PROTECTOR, thus causing the hero and heroine many internal conflicts by making them question their next move. Darin and Rylie may be involved in making difficult choices in the business world, but they are not trained for covet missions. However, events lead to them being thrust together and having to fight against an enemy whose goal may cause their deaths. It was riveting to see two people use their wits as much as physical means to fight when an incident developed. During these threatening occurrences, each of them frequently displayed their inner feelings and this had the couple becoming all the more real to me. These two are independent and stubbornly determined, and this definitely causes some dilemmas as numerous sentiments come into play when things become extremely dangerous. Darin and Rylie are not soldiers or spies, so any emotional outburst seemed feasible as feelings controlled their actions as much as their minds. Passionate feelings are certainly the driving force behind any intimate encounters, and these are shown with loads of enthusiastic excitement and openness. The first book of the Desert Sons series ends satisfactorily, but the Kadir family is still under threat and has me looking forward to the next story. HER SHEIK PROTECTOR is a romantic adventure where risks might be death-defying or just dangerous to the heart.
Linda’s writing for Silhouette Romantic Suspense and the tension is there from the very beginning. I don’t want to give too much away, but dang… what a prologue. Right? Oh, you haven’t read it yet. Well, when you get to it, you’ll be saying man… what a prologue. Talk about starting a book with a bang.
