Alice Anderson wrote a new blog post: Sad News About Penny Jordan 4 months, 2 weeks ago · View
It saddens me to have to announce this but beloved category author Penny Jordan died this past weekend. I only knew Penny online, through my work here at Cata but she was one of the kindest, sweetest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of emailing back and forth with. And she was a tremendous supporter of [...] -
Alice Anderson wrote a new blog post: Why are the classics classic? 1 year, 3 months ago · View
Be warned, I don’t particularly care for many “classic” novels. Which makes me wonder, why are the classics consider classic? The themes in them? Because readers can still relate to them? Or are they classics because a chosen few have said “these are classics, all high school students should read them.” Which books from the [...]

Alice Anderson wrote a new blog post: 3 Reasons to Write to Authors 1 year, 3 months ago · View
Last year I asked the readers on our Readers’ Loop if they write to authors and let them know what they thought of the author’s book. Responses varied. Since I discussed etiquette last week I thought this was worth mentioning this week. I’ve met dozens of writers of the years and they all have a [...]

Over the past few years I’ve seen a good bit of discussion (if you can call it that) about “readers behaving badly” and “authors behaving badly.” I’ve thought, on and off, about what this means and in general, what sort of etiquette I think readers and authors should use. We’ve always encouraged discussion on our [...]

It’s time to flip the calendar forward once again. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2011, isn’t it? Did you get everything accomplished in 2010 that you set out to? Me either. You’re not alone. There are several little things that I didn’t get checked off my list, but such as life. I did however [...]

Calling all Category Romance Authors, it’s your chance to show off your gorgeous cover art. Click the MckLinky button below to add your cover. How? Add a destination link, where you’d like readers to go when they click on your cover. Include the title where it asks for a caption or title. Then you can [...]

An excellent point. I’d like to see that outlook a little more in romance novels. Even the suspense, or Presents. I think humor is tough to pull off, but even if the characters can laugh together by the end of the book, I think their chances of lasting are that much greater.

I agree. Laughter is such good medicine. I think that with the demise of lines like Love and Laughter, Duets, and Flipside we really lost something. Almost as if we told authors laughter isn’t where it’s at. You can sprinkle lightly, but don’t make your whole book funny. I think that some of love’s best [...]

Oh, good question Joy. I’m always interested in the answer to this question, especially from Historical authors. Mostly b/c I’m a wimp and I’d pick the 2000s. LOL

Today I combined two great loves… autumn and books. More specifically, autumn inspired colors and bookmarks. Well, almost bookmarks. One can never have too many bookmarks. I saw a tutorial about these little cuties and thought “hey, I can do that.” I’ve improvised a little… how rude of my stapler to disappear right before my big [...] -
