Captain Gabriel Deane never forgot that day in Badajoz. Nor did he ever forget Emmaline Mableau, whom he met that day. When he sees her several years later, he can’t help but re-introduce himself and he finds that the desire he felt then, is just as strong now. While Emmaline feels that same desire, she rejects him a husband material. She had been married to a soldier and her son would never accept Gabriel in her life. Now two years later, she returns to Gabriel with a proposal but who knows if Gabriel will say yes now and take another chance with his heart.

Valiant Soldier, Beautiful Enemy is a beautiful ending to this trilogy of book surrounding men who were all affected by a terrible day during a war. One incident which had long range consequences for so many. Gabriel never for got that day and never forgot Emmaline. Emmaline never forgot but her son never forgot either and blamed all Englishmen for the death of his father. Emmaline felt she had no choice but to reject Gabriel but she could never forget. He was also the man she turned to in her time of need. How all these emotions resolve themselves is told by a master story teller, Diane Gaston in the pages of Valiant Soldier, Beautiful Enemy. Diane Gaston is truly gifted with her ability to create memorable, realistic characters that remain with us long after the story has been told.
